题目:Whos Shakespeare? Whose Shakespeare?

主讲人:David Scott Kastan, Yale University

主持人:郝田虎教授

时间:20181012日下午3-5

地点:紫金港校区东2-102

内容提要:Shakespeare is the most successful dramatist of all time. Even today, some 400 years after his death, he is still the single most widely read and most often performed playwright on earth. The lecture, Who's Shakespeare? Whose Shakespeare?, will try to explain who Shakespeare was and who he has become. It will think about what has made possible his unparalleled and unpredictable success, by considering his artistry as it was deeply embedded in the history and culture of his own moment, and also as it has been appropriated by later histories and other cultures that have made him their own.

主讲人简介:David Scott Kastan is the George M. Bodman Professor of English at Yale University, having previously taught at Columbia University and at Dartmouth College. He is among the most widely read of contemporary literary scholars, with his work translated into many languages (most recently with work published in Chinese, Russian, Danish, and Hungarian). Currently an International Consultant for the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies (CMRS), Zhejiang University, he has served as one of the general editors of the Arden Shakespeare, as the co-editor of the Bantam Shakespeare, and as the series editor of the Barnes and Noble Shakespeare; and he has authored or edited numerous books, including Shakespeare and the Shapes of Time, Shakespeare after Theory, Shakespeare and the Book, A Will to Believe: Shakespeare and Religion, and the five-volume Oxford Encyclopedia of British Literature. His most recent book, On Color, was published in May 2018. Currently he is working on a history of the book for Princeton University Press, tentatively entitled Book Cases
