Academic Objectives & Requirements

 

 

    1. Objectives
    To cultivate research-capable foreign language talents with high competency in French language and literature, possessing global vision, a rigorous academic attitude, an innovative mind, and the ability to adapt to international competition while catering to national development needs.
    2. Requirements.
    A. Personal Qualities:
    Strictly act in accordance with the laws and regulations of the People's Republic of China, pursue an honest and prudent learning attitude, maintain academic morality, a spirit of social responsibility and teamwork, and be in good health.
    B. Knowledge:
    Proficiency in French language, basic foundation in French, Francophone literature, French linguistics, and intercultural communication, and capacity for research in one of the above disciplines.
    C. General Capabilities:
    Possess solid French listening, speaking, reading and writing skills; able to read and analyze academic papers proficiently; able to write essays in  standard academic language; able to conduct academic communication in oral or in written form.

Academic Reports

 

 

During the period enrolled, students are requested to deliver 4 book reports, including one at the Institute’s regular academic seminar (2 credits).

Thesis Proposal

 

 

Deadlines for thesis proposals are as follows. For 2.5-year masters degree students: Before April 30th of the second year, i.e. 10 months before the thesis defense.

Pre-review

 

 

The master’s thesis uses a one-month pre-review system. Those applying for a degree in spring shall submit the draft for review before December 20 of the previous year; those applying for a degree in summer shall submit the draft before March 20 of the same year; if the degree is applied for in winter, students shall submit the thesis draft for review by September 20.

Graduation & Diploma Requirements

 

 

1. Complete the required courses and meet the minimum credit requirements for the program.
2. Complete all assessments and meet relevant requirements.
3. Successfully defend the dissertation.
4. Publication of academic papers: During the period of study for a degree, students must obtain research results corresponding to the guidelines for applied master’s degree students. That is, students must publish at least one academic paper in public publications (including collections of papers) under the name of Zhejiang University as the first author or, if the second author, the first author must be a mentor.

The Quality Guarantee System consists of the Main Training Parts for Full-time Graduate Students, the Application, Anonymous Appraisal and Defense for Dissertation and Teaching and Management Rules of Graduate Students

 

 

Notes

 

 

In order to cultivate students’ global horizons and to create an internationalized training environment for postgraduate education, the colleges and research institutes encourage graduate students to participate in international exchange programs. During the period of study, graduate students can participate in the corresponding courses of French universities who have established an interscholastic relationship with Zhejiang University or with the School of International Studies. The discipline encourages graduate students to actively participate in academic research and activities, and publish research results under tutors’ guidance. Graduate students have obligations and responsibilities to assist their tutor in teaching activities and in the management of the institute.
