题目:Book Review: The Anthropological Lens 《人类学透镜》

报告人:张丽燕(2010级英语语言文学硕士)

摘要:

In The Anthropological Lens, James Peacock attempts to answer students’ questions of anthropology at an elementary level. Neither an introductory anthropology textbook nor an academic treatise, this insightful book is a combination of analysis and anecdote. In Peacock’s words, he uses “illustrative material” drawn from common experience instead of “esoteric fact and academic reference”, thus make this book worth reading. From the beginning the author introduces the major concepts (e.g. Culture, a set of shared understandings) in anthropology and then he informs us with the distinctive method, the fieldwork, which contributes to a holistic understanding of the world. Reading between the lines of this book, we can clearly see the author’s invaluable perspectives on anthropology and his genuine reflections on filed experience resonating among those fieldworkers.

 

题目:托马斯-莫尔的《乌托邦》对当代中国特色社会主义建设的启示

摘要:

1516年出版的《乌托邦》,是文艺复兴时期英国政治活动家,人文主义思想家托马斯-莫尔的传世之作。该书继承柏拉图《理想国》中对社会构建的理想主义情怀,开创了空想社会主义学说的先河。但《乌托邦》自诞生起,各方就对这个莫尔描述的这个“世外桃源”心存疑虑,或攻击其根基虚无,根本没有从现实社会过渡的方法;或指责其对人性善的假设过于极端,忽略了人本有的自私性;或提出乌托邦重农主义过浓、对于新生技术、生产力发展的内在动力不够。而随着现实生活中乌托邦运动的屡次失败,和衍生出通过极端暴力手段干涉私人权利的萨沃那罗拉鼎新运动等事件的发生,乌托邦理想逐渐式微。在现代,曼努尔兄弟认为乌托邦已经接近它的黄昏,哈贝马斯也反复称“乌托邦的力量已经穷竭”。但笔者认为,尽管《乌托邦》存在诸多局限,但这部作品对理想社会的美好设计,对人的本质、人的生存目的的深层揭示,以及对人与自然万物和谐共处的信念对当今建设中国特色的社会主义仍带来不少启示。本文就对中国特色社会主义法制建设和精神文明建设两方面展开讨论。

题目: Translation Strategies from the Perspective of the Translator’s Subjectivity—A Case Study of the English Translation of Liaozhai by Yang Xianyi &Gladys Yang

摘要:

The translator’s subjectivity is the initiative taken by the translator to achieve his purpose as well as the passivity constraining the translator during the translation process. Since the “cultural turn” in the 1970s, the translator and his subjectivity have become important research topics. By analyzing the translation strategies Yang Xianyi& Gladys Yang have adopted in Selected Tales of Liaozhai because of their subjective factors at the micro-leveli.e. the lexical leveltogether with comparing it with other versions respectively by Herbert Allen Giles, John Minford, and Denis C. & Victor H. Mair at the macro-level, including the title and “Yishishiyue”(“异史氏曰”) parts, the author intends to illustrate how the translator’s subjectivity influences his translation strategies in literary translation. From this study the author can conclude that it is inappropriate to label a translated book or a translator as purely “foreignization” or “domestication”. Translators will flexibly adopt both of them in the translation of a book or an article; he may even combine the two strategies in translating a single phrase or an expression.

 

题目: 《李尔王》中对终极存在和自我救赎的追求——论李尔的死亡和诗歌的正义性

摘要:

莎士比亚的不朽杰作《李尔王》自诞生以来,其悲惨的结局一直备受争议。本文从《李尔王》所为人垢病的结局入手,以李尔王悲惨死去这一看似不公正的结局为为切入点,对莎士比亚的杰作《李尔王》进行系统而深入的文本分析。通过分析这一结局的演化过程,讨论剧中李尔死亡的深层意义:《李尔王》以剧中主要人物悲惨死去这一结局并不是缺失诗歌的正义性,而是莎士比亚的精心安排。莎士比亚通过设置李尔的死亡,表达了自己对于人类追求自身存在方式的选择。在莎士比亚眼中,死亡不仅是一种解脱,更预示了新生,是在完成了自我救赎之后的圆满结局。在这一过程中李尔由一个专横独断,自以为是,喜怒无常的封建君主沦落为一个遭人贱视,可怜的老头子,在心力交悴的疯癫中摆脱了世俗王权,野心欲望的羁绊,看到了在位时未见的人间疾苦,感受到真挚的父女真情,见理智时所未见,感清醒时所未感,向神性飞跃,最终以自己和女儿考狄利娅的死完成了对乱世的精神救赎。本文以人文主义批评为导向,以安布雷德利的“以人物为中心的批评模式”为主要依据,从哲学角度探究剧中对终极意义的追求和思考,分析李尔的分裂与对立,以及由分裂对立走向和谐统一,追求永恒的精神存在,进而完成自身圆满救赎的过程。并且借鉴基督教与西方文化的联系,探索西方文学中救赎这一传统主题对本剧的影响。依次解析了《李尔王》中的三个层面:(1)死亡与公正(2)现世追求与精神追求(3)和谐与救赎。

 

题目:人类学和社会学的另类写作---《金翼》

报告人:肖丽(2010级英语语言文学硕士)

摘要:《金翼》,著者著名的人类学学家、社会学家和民族学家,本书的副标题是:中国家族制度的社会学研究。原版为英文版呢,后来在原作者的指导下翻译成中文版,但内容中某些措辞微有变动。从书名听来,这似乎又是一本枯燥无趣的人类学或是社会学作品,但是不然,这其实是一本用小说体裁写成的人类学作品。但是,《金翼》不是一般意义上的小说,它包含了作者的亲身经历、他的家乡、他的家族历史。它是真实的,是东方乡村社会和家族体系的缩影;同时,这部书又汇集了社会学研究所必需的种种资料,展示了种种人际关系的网络---------它是运用社会人类学调查研究方法的结果。故事主要讲了福建一个村庄毗邻而居的两个家族,张家和黄家。这两个家族既有亲戚关系,又在一起做生意。其中一家度过逆境继续繁荣,另一家最初是很兴旺而后却衰落了。本书的中心人物是黄家的家长黄东林,他是中国农民中最优秀的典型,勤俭节约、精明能干、吃苦耐劳。在故事的发展中,社会的各个重要方面------农业周期、婚礼、葬礼、轮船公司的业务、分家等都以同样朴实无华的方式依次展现出来。在描写中,中国社会的全貌也逐渐向读者展开来了。

 

题目:衔接理论

摘要:

本文意在对衔接这一语言学理论进行简要的解释说明。第一部分将简要辨析衔接与连贯这一组易混淆概念。第二部分将介绍衔接在语篇中的功能与作用。第三部分将从韩礼德和哈桑对衔接理论的发展、其他主要语言学家对衔接理论的发展和衔接理论的跨学科发展状况三个方面重点介绍衔接理论既有的发展状况。第四部分总结衔接理论存在的问题及发展趋势。

 

题目:The Interpretation of The Chronicles of Narnia in the Light of Tolkien’s On Fairy-Stories

摘要:

    J. R. R. Tolkien’ On Fairy-Stories is greatly influential in the fairy-story research field and Tolkien’s aesthetics of fantasy is best expressed from On Fairy-Stories with the artistic consideration of fairy tales as a genre, the fundamental concern of desirability, the fulfillment of the basic human wishes and the function of such elements as Fantasy, Recovery, Escape and Consolation.

    With the film adaptations of Narnia and widely spread in China, more and more Chinese audiences pay attention to C. S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia, the great seven series of fantasy. As good friends in The Inklings (a literature group) in Oxford University, they used to exchange writing ideas with each other. It is said that The Chronicles of Narnia was created after the author Lewis read Tolkien’s fairy-tale theory On Fairy-Stories. In The Chronicles of Narnia, the children from our world adventure in the fictional realm Narnia, where animals can talk, magic is common and very few men live in. Narnia is a world that is quite different from ours. It is the country of the great lion—Aslan, but for a man to be King of and the children handle a crisis with the help of the Lion Aslan in the world of Narnia. The discussion in the present paper is focused on the fairy-story features of The Chronicles of Narnia in terms of Tolkien’s aesthetics of On Fairy-Stories. In conclusion, the very charms of The Chronicles of Narnia are by all means derived from the unique artistry of fairytale.
