内容提要：在西方，学者们重视艺术的差异性，他们遵循莱辛的观点，相信时间性艺术（比如音乐和诗歌）与空间性艺术（比如绘画和雕塑）并无关联。在中国，多种艺术被完美地融合为一体。我们将审视和探讨西方学者John Webb, Ernest Fenollosa, and Ezra Pound对中国艺术的视觉性和音乐性的羡慕。
Abstract: In the West, many thinkers emphasize the disunity of the arts, following from Gotthold Lessing's notion that the temporal arts, such as music and poetry, have nothing to do with the spatial arts, such as painting and sculpture. China, by contrast, has often seemed to have a culture in which the arts were ideally integrated. We will look at some writers who envied the pictorial and musical intensity of Chinese, including John Webb, Ernest Fenollosa, and Ezra Pound.
学者简介：
Daniel Albright，哈佛大学资深教授。1970年获美国耶鲁大学博士学位，2003至今任美国哈佛大学英美语言文学系 Ernest Bernbaum 文学教授，兼任哈佛大学音乐系教授。曾任哈佛大学英语系主任。迄今已出版13部专著，主编9部著作，发表40余篇重要学术期刊文章, 在英美大学作80余场讲座。主要学术著作包括:
