Toward Consilient Ecocriticism

内容提要：在整个北美和其他许多地区，学术机构现今都在积极倡导跨学科合作。因为世界的现实问题需要学者跨越传统学科的界限，集思广益。1998年，著名的生物学家、环境作家爱德华·O. 威尔逊（Edward O. Wilson）出版了《融合：知识的统一》一书，提出将看似孤立、矛盾的学术领域进行融合。此次讲座将讨论生态批评理论，抑或环境导向的文学批评理论，如何作为一次跨学科的实践对文学话题和环境社会话题展开研究，即探讨生态批评的融合形式。本讲座将着重论述地质学家格兰·爱德森(Glenn Adelson)和文学研究学者约翰·艾尔德（John Elder）对美国诗人罗伯特·弗罗斯特（Robert Frost）著名诗篇“Spring Pools”的合作解读，并介绍Slovic教授所开展的一些跨学科研究。
Abstract: Academic institutions throughout North America, and in many other parts of the world, tout the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration. The real problems of the world require the combined insights of scholars working across traditional disciplinary boundaries. In 1998, prominent biologist and environmental author Edward O. Wilson published the book Consilience: The Unity of Knowledge, arguing for the potential integration of academic fields that may seem incompatible and disparate. The lecture will discuss the efforts of ecocriticism, or environmentally oriented literary criticism, to achieve interdisciplinary ways of studying literary topics and broader environmental and social topics—in other words, the consilient forms of ecocriticism. It will particularly focus on the collaborative work of ecologist Glenn Adelson and literary scholar John Elder in interpreting American writer Robert Frost’s famous poem “Spring Pools” and on a few of Professor Slovic’s interdisciplinary projects.
学者简介：
Scott Slovic，国际生态批评领域资深学者，爱达荷大学英文系主任(Chair of Department of English)。1990年获美国布朗大学博士学位；1995年至2012年春, 于内华达大学雷诺分校英语系任教，主持环境人文艺术中心；自2012年7月至今任美国爱达荷大学文学教授，主攻文学与环境方向；曾三次参加福布莱特计划，分别在德国波恩大学、日本东京大学和广东外语外贸大学进行交流研究。担任过生态批评权威期刊ISLE: Interdisciplinary Studies in Literature and Environment的主编，现为12本环境文学领域期刊的编委，并为美国顶尖的环境杂志Orion的编委副主席。迄今已撰写、主编和合编21部著作，发表200余篇重要学术期刊文章，其访谈、文章也频频出现在国内学术期刊中。
