Highlights on the Lecture:

I will start off with the formational elements and perceptions of a city whereon the foundation myth of Britain comes.  Sir Gawain and the Green Knight will be cited first.  With the founding father of Britain, the New Troy, or the forerunner name of London is formed.  In The History of Kings of Britain, after Lud, the city is renamed Kaerlud and later corrupted to become Kaerlundein, Lundres and later London.  For illustration purposes, we shall cite texts from Piers Plowman, The Canterbury Tales, Le Morte Darthur, The Faerie Queene, Dryden’s “London Reborn,” Anonymous Poet of the eighteenth century, William Blake, Mathew Arnold, Ezra Pound, and a twentieth century poet to illuminate various aspects and developments of the London life. An attempt will be made to historicize the mythical, allegorical, historical and legendary stories of London at different times and to explicate how they come to pass to its present stage.
