Abstract：
In March 2016 , at the International Criminal Court in the Hague, Almed Al Faqi Al Mahdi, a member of the Islamic extremist group Ansar Dine, was prosecuted and convicted to 12 years imprisonment for the destruction of cultural heritage in Timbuktu, Mali. He is the first case of destruction of cultural property being treated as a criminal act and successfully prosecuted by an international court of law. My talk will focus on the implications of this case for the future preservation of cultural heritage and whether the case can set precedents for national and international law on heritage rights.
迈克尔・罗兰教授简介：
迈克尔・罗兰（MichaelRowlands）教授在1972年获得伦敦大学考古学博士学位后，至伦敦大学学院任人类学讲师，后于1992年成为物质文化研究教授，曾担任伦敦大学学院人类学系主任。罗兰教授的研究突破了民族、国家与区域的视野局限，并注重对各种文明体系的比较研究工作。作为一位卓有建树的人类学家，罗兰教授的学术成果丰富，著有《考古学中的社会转型》《物质文化研究手册》等。在国内有根据其14个讲座编译的中文《历史、物质性与遗产》一书出版（2016年）。
