母语迁移对EFL学习者隐喻输出的制约

――以中国非英语专业大学生的英语习作为例

摘 要:目前针对二语隐喻输出的研究大多着眼于二语能力与隐喻输出的关系,而几乎无人从“母语迁移”,及母语是如何分别从语言和概念正负迁移两个方面具体影响二语隐喻输出的角度进行探究。本研究以165名非英语专业大学生在英语阶段性测试中的习作为例,分析该群体在实际语言使用中的隐喻输出情况,研究发现:隐喻输出的数量和质量与作文题目无关,但与学生的二语水平以及与其对隐喻的掌握有关;EFL学习者对隐喻的掌握受母语迁移影响明显,其中最主要的是概念负迁移对隐喻输出所造成的制约;EFL学习者英语水平越高,其作文中的隐喻密度越大,输出的正确隐喻越多。以上结论也为EFL写作教学提供了一些启示。

A Validation Study of Short-Answer Questions to Students of Different Language Proficiency

Abstract: Validation study is an important and also heated issue in the field of language testing. Short-answer questions (SAQs or SAQ hereafter), as the representative subjective test method, are worthwhile to be investigated but seem to be underappreciated among validation researches, much less analysis concerning the relationship between validity of SAQ subtest and test-takers language proficiency. In order to bridge the gap, the current study will focus on the validity of SAQ and will more specifically concentrate on two questions:

(1)How valid is SAQ in testing students’ language proficiency?

(2)What is the relation between the validity of SAQ subtest and students’ language proficiency?

There were altogether 52 participants who were all senior students majoring in English and were further divided into higher and lower groups differentiated in English language proficiency. The instruments included a SAQ test and a questionnaire. In order to answer the first question, this study examined the correlation between all students’ proficiency scores and their scores of the SAQ. The correlation coefficient was 0.652, which indicated all testers SAQs scores were significantly consistent with their proficiency scores. That is, SAQ scores were valid indeed in testing students’ language proficiency. In terms of the relationship between validity of SAQ and language proficiency, it was found that SAQ scores in lower group were significantly correlated with their proficiency scores yet the correlation in higher groups was not obvious. In other words, SAQ in this research better tested the ability of lower group students but did not well reflect the ability of higher group students.

Discourse and Translation Analysis of Nominalization in Legal Text:

 A Combination of Qualitative and Quantitative Study

Abstract: It seems to be a commonly recognized fact that English language is characterized by a high density of nouns. The nominalization phenomenon is even more prevalent in legal text, which to some extent accounts for its precise, solemn and highly formal style. This paper is designed to illustrate nominalization structure and the reason for its preponderance in English legal text as well as the existing problems in its translation into Chinese. Relevant strategies will be proposed to overcome these obstacles and facilitate the translation of English nominalization structure.
