摘要：
This talk will introduce the basic mental operation known as conceptual blending and its role in making human language possible. Blending operates on image-schemes, force-dynamics, conceptual frames, constructions, story, and joint attention. Several patterns of language are specialized to prompt for the construction by the hearer of certain conceptual blending networks. Blending solves the central problem of language and makes it possible for the human mind to have language far beyond the level of a few hundred tokens for prompting narrow meanings.
作者介绍：
Mark Turner教授，1974年毕业于加州大学伯克利分校英语系，1978年毕业于加州大学伯克利分校数学系，分别获文学与理学学士学位；1979年毕业于加州大学伯克利分校数学系，获理学硕士学位；1983年毕业于加州大学伯克利分校语言学系，获文学博士学位。现为美国凯斯西储大学（Case Western Reserve University）教授，认知科学网创始主任，Red Hen Lab™联合主任。是亚历山大・冯・洪堡基金会的Anneliese Maier研究奖获得者；法兰西学院法国语言文学贡献奖获得者。曾任斯坦福大学行为科学研究中心副主任、凯斯西储大学认知科学系主任、凯斯西储大学文理学院院长等职。专业领域广泛，涉及文学、文化、语言、认知等学科。
