大学新生爱情概念建构的认知隐喻解析

摘要:本文以认知隐喻理论为研究框架,探讨了中国大一新生对爱情概念的隐喻性建构。来自国内某高校73名大一新生完成了关于“爱情是什么”的问卷回答。研究结果表明,1)处在人生重要过渡时期的大一新生,除了使用食物、情绪体验、风景等常见的始源域外,还使用相关研究尚未发现过的始源域,例如,知识、文娱活动等独具年龄特色的词汇建构爱情概念;而且所使用的始源域绝大部分是积极词汇,表明,大一新生对爱情总体上持肯定态度。2)性别影响爱情隐喻建构:在食物、风景、建筑、文娱活动等始源域选择上,两组没有显著差异;而在知识、物体、植物等始源域方面,两组存在显著差异;在具体的始源域词汇选择方面,女生比男生更多使用积极词汇,说明大一女生对于爱情持有更加乐观积极的态度。本研究结果表明,处在人生特殊阶段的中国大一学生,对爱情概念具有特殊的隐喻性建构,这种特殊的建构来源于其从高中阶段向大学阶段过渡时期对爱情的独特体验。本研究结果对大学教育工作者开展大学新生心理辅导及价值观念引领具有一定的参考意义。

External validation of the alignment between a large-scale in-house listening test and CSE

Abstract:As a national framework of reference for English language education, China’s Standards of English (CSE) has received much attention in the field of language testing and assessment (Jin et al., 2017; He & Chen, 2017; Liu & Han, 2018; Min et al., 2018). Few studies, however, have aimed at interpreting the test scores in relation to the CSE levels. We aligned the listening subtest of an in-house English exit test, with over 7,000 test takers every year, to CSE following the framework prescribed by the Manual (Europe of Council, 2009). There were four components of the alignment, namely specification, familiarization, standard setting, and validation, in which 13 panelists took part and two standard setting methods were adopted. MFRM analysis was conducted by FACETS (Linacre, 2014) to prove the procedural validity of the cut scores which were yielded corresponding to the CSE levels. Since improper interpretation of the CSE descriptors can lead to wrong placement of the test takers, it is essential that follow-up research should be conducted to verify the standard-setting results. Accordingly, this empirical study is to externally examine the cut scores established so as to gather evidence supporting the external validity of the standard-setting process in the linkage project. Five senior college English teachers and 30 sophomores participated in the study. The teachers were asked to judge their students’ English proficiency levels according to the CSE descriptors. Meanwhile the test was administered to those students. Thus, their respective CSE levels were gained from the results of the previous alignment study as well as their teachers’ judgement. The results compared were not significantly different by using Wilcoxon signed rank test. Therefore, the findings validated the standard setting results. The implications for the test interpretation were further discussed.

An Empirical Study of BaiCiZhan-assisted Chinese University Students’ English Vocabulary Acquisition

AbstractAs the latest edition of mobile vocabulary learning app, with the unique “image-assisted vocabulary learning” idea, BaiCiZhan ranks the second at the Apple App Store Downloads List for Education. According to the tests among 120 Chinese undergraduates, compared with the traditional vocabulary learning method——the New Oriental TEM8 Word Book, the study researches on the BaiCiZhan-assisted Chinese college students’ English vocabulary acquisition. Based on the study results, referring to the short-time memory, it reveals that they both do well in assisting the target words learning and it doesn’t have an obvious difference in the short-term vocabulary acquisition efficiency. But as it refers to the long-term memory, the BaiCiZhan-assissted way of learning contributes more to the target word acquisition. The differences embody in the following two aspects. First of all, under the reading and listening context, BaiCiZhan performs better and excels at maintaining long-term word memory. Besides, under the writing and speaking context, the BaiCiZhan-assisted way of learning is able to continuously improve students’ long-term word memorizing effect. Lastly, with the help of the results above, based on the “Washback Theory + Metacognitive Strategy + BaiCiZhan”, the research aims to propose some improvement suggestions for BaiCiZhan, which is in order to combine the “mobile technology” with “linguistic theories” and to offer the undergraduates an effective approach to acquiring new words and researchers a new idea for the future development of mobile vocabulary learning apps.
