讲座题目
The Novelty of J. M. Coetzee’s Dusklands and Theories of the Novel
讲座提要
It is fifty years since Dusklands, the first work of fiction by the Nobel Prize-winning author J. M. Coetzee, was published. A great deal of criticism has been written about this work, which consists of two novellas, but this lecture will argue that its power and originality have not been fully captured by critics. With the help of three recent theoretical studies of the novel, a new account of the singularity of Dusklands will be presented, and at the same time the adequacy of these theories will be tested.
