I. Background of the contest
Zhejiang University initiates The 1st Foreign Language Short Video Contest (Prospects for Future Science)in response to the call for educational innovation and in an effort to cultivate global perspectives, innovative thinking and practical skills among graduate students. The contest aims to provide graduate students with a platform for self-expression and mutual learning, facilitating cross-disciplinary communication and collaboration and fostering improvements in the quality of graduate education.
II. Contest mission
ZJU’s Foreign Language Short Video Contest, themed Prospects for Future Science, aims to inspire students to devote themselves to learning and to pursue forward-thinking and practical ideas, and to thereby stimulate their innovative thinking and imagination. The contest encourages participants to express their passion for their field of study and their aspirations for the future through foreign languages and visual forms. Through this initiative, we hope to cultivate talents with innovative spirits and practical skills, inject vitality into scientific endeavor and social development, and to pump vigor to the well-being of humanity.
III. The topic of the 1st contest
The video should adopt the topic “Artificial Intelligence + Disciplinary Vision.” Please integrate personal and professional information to showcase existing research achievements in the discipline. Envision the future development of the discipline with the assistance of AI technology and the contributions it can make to humanity. Please utilize your imagination and creativity to demonstrate the prospects of the discipline.

A. Preliminary stage of the contest
How to register: Email your video and supporting materials to flsvcZJU2024@126.com.
Requirements for the video: a 3-4 minute creative video in English (Production requirements are detailed in the attached Registration Form at the end of the document.)
B. Final stage of the contest
Time: November 2024 (the exact date to be announced)
Venue: Zijingang Campus, Zhejiang University
Format: In-person presentation and defense (including a 2-minute presentation, video playback and questions from judges)
VI. Eligible Participants and Team Composition
All students enrolled in colleges and universities around the world are eligible to participate in the contest, and all majors are welcome.
Each team should consist of 1-3 college students and must include at least one member who is a graduate student.
Cross-national, cross-university, cross-disciplinary, and cross-grade level team formation is encouraged.
VII. Evaluation Criteria and Award Categories
The contest will have a judging panel composed of experts in relevant fields.
The panel of judges will select finalists from the preliminary contestants based on their performances.
Evaluation Criteria:
1) Creativity: unique perspective, innovative content, a broad vision and flexible thinking
2) Expressiveness: effectiveness of film techniques, narrative style, editing, etc.
3) Production quality: refinement and excellence in video imagery, composition, color, camera movement, transitions, special effects, voice-over, background music, etc.
4) Language proficiency: accuracy in grammar, appropriate diction, rich sentence structures, fluent expression, etc.
5) Other aspects: additional factors contributing to the overall quality of the video
In accordance with the evaluation results, the contest will bestow the following awards in the final stage to a certain number of winners: Grand Prize, First Prize, Second Prize, Third Prize, and Honorable Mention. All awardees and their supervising teachers will receive certificates to honor their achievements and innovative spirit.
