Esther’s Messages to Young Faculty and Students：
Different questions, different methods and how to publish without perishing along the way
Esther’s Messages: This talk deals with research methodology and also ways to make the most out of your research time and energy. I will provide an overview of different research methods commonly used in my research (elicitation, experiments, corpus, etc.) and discuss their pros and cons on the basis of concrete examples. I will also comment on some ways researchers have found to solve well-known methodological problems. I hope to convince you that different research questions require using different methods. I will further reflect on more general issues related to how to go about doing research: how to set up the best conditions to get ideas and take them all the way to publication stage. I will present the results of research studies research on how to balance work and life, how to keep focused and motivated, and how to be the most creative and productive. Lastly, time will be reserved to the introduction of new faculty members and individual coaching.
主讲人简介：
Esther Pascual，荷兰阿姆斯特丹自由大学语言学博士，浙江大学外语学院 “百人计划”专家。
Pascual博士在国际上首先提出 “虚拟交际”概念并将其系统化、理论化，从而开创了一个全新的研究领域。Pascual博士的研究成果多发表于国际著名SSCI/A&HCI期刊，如Annual Review of Cognitive Linguistics, Cognitive Linguistics, Text & Talk, Pragmatics等，其学术专著 “Fictive Interaction: The Conversation Frame in Thought, Language and Discourse” 2014年由 John Benjamins出版社出版。Pascual博士担任多个地区和国际学术团体的常任理事，参与创办并主编同行评审国际期刊Language under Discussion, 同时还是多家国际著名SSCI/A&HCI期刊匿名审稿人和科研机构的项目评审专家。
