I. Un-write the Written and Re-write the Spoken

The talk tries to restore Beowulf to its “unwritten” condition as reflection of England in the early medieval times. Sir Gawain and the Green Knight still retains some of its original oral nature, but it demonstrates structural improvement only possible in works of well-written form.
II. On Shakespeare and English Sonnets
Time: 3-5 pm, Nov. 29, 2017
The talk focuses mainly on the poetic language and rhythmic structure by tracing the structural development of English sonnets. Poets analyzed include Chaucer, Surrey, Wyatt the elder, Spenser, Sidney, and Shakespeare.
