摘要:Following a return to basics and general observations about Shakespeare’s “Sonnets” the presentation will specifically turn to a detailed discussion and readings of three of them: 18, 29, and 30 from the perspective of formalist readings paying attention to historical, thematic, psychological and other perspectives including their impact upon subsequent writers. Texts and interpretations considered include those by Colin Borrow, Katherine Duncan-Jones, William Empson, Roman Jacobson, Camilla Paglia, Cathy Shrank and Helen Vendler, among others. The conclusion will be a summary and a personal recollection.
