讲座提要:
Representions of the Holocaust or Shoah have been made the exemplary enactment of ethical and artistic imperatives. Loss, memory, and restoration, or remembering, repeating and working-through exemplify restorative closure and institutionalised memorialisation in a space of high commentary. Given France’s historical involvement in the Shoah, these imperatives can still signify controversially. The talk reviews a controversy arising from the 2009 publication of Jan Karski by Yannick Haenel, which was strongly denounced by Claude Lanzmann. It then uncovers the common blindness hidden in plain sight within their terse disagreements: the non-human world, whose different witnessing is located within human reconfiguration and rebirth.
