题目：Discussion of the Feasibility of Giving Phonetic Instruction to English Beginners
摘要： The research aims to conduct an experiment on the negative transfer caused by effects of Wu, Xiang and Northern dialects on the acquisition of English speech sounds. It takes altogether 36 non-English majors as subjects, with each 12 speaking one dialect. By means of questionnaires, sound recording by Cooledit and phonetic analysis by Praat, the research tries to find out students’ pronunciation problems and ways to reduce negative effects caused by dialects. The investigator recommends that we attach more importance to the comparison between Chinese and English. Moreover, during the early stages of English pronunciation learning, teachers need to focus more on the speech organ illustrations and phonetically detailed pronunciation methods with the purpose of students’ better mastery of English speech sounds and further improvements of English.

题目：A Multi-dimensional Approach to Register Variation in Mandarin Chinese
摘要：While Multi-dimensional approach has been employed to explore language variation in and across English, Somali, Nukulaelae Tuvaluan, and Korean by Biber (1988), Kim (1990), and Biber (1995), little research has been done in register variation in Mandarin Chinese on a full scale. Yet Chinese being an isolating language mostly used as the mother tongue around the world makes the research on its register variation necessary. This study aims to investigate register variation in spoken and written Mandarin Chinese from a macroscopic perspective. In the present research, a structurally-built corpus composed of thirteen Chinese registers are examined using Multi-dimensional approach to gain a comprehensive picture of the co-occurrence patterns of linguistic features. Six underlying dimensions of register variation are extracted and identified after factor analysis.
Linguistic features clustering in each dimension are firstly interpreted in a tentative way according to the functions they might perform. The interpretation is further justified by computing the factor score for each register on each dimension as supplementary evidence. The results show striking differences between spoken and written registers as how they distribute on each dimension though not all dimensions enjoy an absolute spoken/written dichotomy. The research is expected to be significant for Chinese stylistic study provided that a quantitative basis can be resorted to.

题目：Corpus Analysis on reports of July 5th Riot in Xinjiang in People’s Daily
摘要：paper has made an observation on the words, which own the highest frequencies, in the reports of People’s Daily on Xinjiang in year 2008、2009 and 2010 (all in Chinese）which around July 5th riots , from 2 aspects below: whether the words mirror the trend and emphasis of development in Xinjiang; if so, then what can we conclude that after the riots, specifically from which aspects do the government change the developing strategy in Xinjiang; So by doing this, we can find out a new method so as to learn and analysis the reports, and get some messages and ideas from the linguistic research. I analyze 3 years’ corpora from words’ high frequencies, and made comparison among them to get the result.
