A Delegation from German Krefeld High School Visited SIS, ZJU

March 24, 2010, a delegation of 22 German guests from Krefeld high school visited the Institute of German
Study, SIS,ZJU in the company of teachers from their sister school —Hangzhou Xuejun High School. They
received a warm welcome from Associate Professor Li Yuan, vice head of Institute of German Studies,
as well as some sophomores and juniors who were on behalf of SIS.
The delegation arrived at the conference room at 8.30am punctually. Surrounded by students from
Institute of German Studies, they were immersed in the harmonious atmosphere of Sino-German friendship.
Associate Professor Li, in the chair, opened this communication conference by an ebullient salutatory
and her glamorous language received a shower of applause from the audiences. She presented the
development as well as achievement of Institute of German Study through videos in German. After the
presentation, she organized discussion on the topic of Sino-German communication among students.
Though it was a rainy morning in the early spring, the conference room was filled with students’ enthusiasm.
Amid laughter and cheerful chatting, students shared their viewpoints to each other.
Associate Secretary- General, Director of Department of Humanities, head of Institute of German Studies,
Professor Fan Jieping took time out of his busy schedule to show up during the conference. Not only
did he warmly welcomed the guests, but also introduced them the strategic objective of Zhejiang University
focusing on the construction of the world first-class university and internationalization of higher education.
Professor Fan explained the details of the newly speciality — the ‘China Studies’ set up for both undergraduate
and postgraduate, which bases on the “people to people diplomacy” of Chinese universities and latest
situation of Chinese culture extension. All the audiences presented were deeply impressed by
Professor Fan’s humorous language and immense erudition.
After the conference, the delegation also paid a visit to Foreign Language Corner of SIS and the library of
Institute of German Studies. By attending the textual interpretation class conducted by Professor Fan,
they got first-hand experience on ZJU, a prestigious university with a century-long academic tradition
and intellectual esteem. Many students were reluctant to leave the class and expressed that they enjoyed
the great benefit by attending such rich-connotative class.
Afterwards, accompanied by teachers and students from Institute of German Studies, the delegation went
sightseeing from Nanhua Garden to School history room and enjoyed meals at school cafeteria to
experience real college life. Wandering in the rain, everyone was having a good time. The beautiful Qizhen
Lake was the witness to this everlasting friendship.
