Program for Cultivating Excellent International Organization Talents
——Education Program of the Global Engagement Program (GEM) Minor Class
1. Educational Goals
· This program aims to cultivate well-rounded high-quality students with the potential to work in international organizations. The program aims to develop students who have aa strong sense of social responsibility, dedication to work, global vision, patriotism and creativity. Based on a solid grounding in foreign languages, students gain a thorough understanding of international standards, excellent intercultural communication competence, knowledge of international organizations, and professional knowledge of a particular field so as to be capable of analyzing international affairs.
Graduates of this program should achieve a high level of competence in high-end international work in government departments, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, foreign affairs agencies, enterprises and institutions.
2. Core Qualities of GEP Interdisciplinary Students
1) multilingual ability: Chinese + English (+ a rare language)
2) intercultural communication competence: the ability to manage and coordinate potential cross-cultural issues
3) a good command of international rules and potential for research depending on conditions in other countries
4)a good knowledge of international organizations and international development
5)expertise in a specific area
6)understanding of recruitment processes in international organizations and strong interview skills
7)well-developed interpersonal skills such as negotiation, management and communication, etiquette, organization and coordination.
3. Enrolment and Management of Students
1) This minor class, which is open to the whole university including postgraduates and alumni, is a part of the Program for Cultivating Excellent International Organization Talents.
2) Students are enrolled in this class after passing exams in order to guarantee their foreign language proficiency.
3) Having obtained 10 credits and attended at least 5 thematic activities related international organizations, students can obtain a minor certificate jointly issued by the School of International Studies and the School of Management, as well as a course-completion certificate for the Program for Cultivating Excellent International Organization Talents.
4) Students who have completed all required courses can obtain an official minor certificate issued by the Undergraduate School of Zhejiang University, and a course-completion certificate for the Program for Cultivating Excellent International Organization Talents jointly issued by the School of International Studies and the School of Management.
5) Students who have completed all courses and who have attended other courses and activities as required can obtain an official minor certificate issued by the Undergraduate School of Zhejiang University, and a course-completion certificate for the Program for Cultivating Excellent International Organization Talents jointly issued by the School of International Studies and the School of Management. In addition, they may be awarded a certificate issued by the International Training Center of the International Labour Organization.
4. Educational Arrangements
1)This two-year educational program begins in the first half semester of the sophomore year and ends in the second half semester of junior year. Student enrollment begins in the second half semester of freshman year.

*2 Alternatively, students may take Belt and Road Initiative and Globalization(05197770), Geopolitics from China’s Perspective (05197740), or Non-traditional Security(241S0061)
*3 Students taking Professional Qualities and Career Planning for International Organizations are required to attend 10 thematic activities about international organizations, finish 30 credit-hours’ volunteer work related to international organizations, and other requirements specific to this course.
