SIS currently has 5 school-level research institutes, namely the Institute of Foreign Literature, the Institute of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, the Institute of German Culture, the Institute of Translation Studies and the Institute of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies. It also has 3 school-level research centers: the Center for Contemporary Chinese Discourse Studies, the Center for Chinese Translation, and the Center for Interdisciplinary Literary Studies. The School hosts 5 department research institutes: the Institute of German Studies, the Institute of Russian Language and Culture, the Institute of French Language and Culture, the Institute of Japanese Language and Culture and the Institute of Spanish Language and Culture. Finally, the school is home to 9 research platforms: the SHEN Hong Research Group, the Center for Modernist Studies, the Center for Language-Behavior Patterns, the Center for Legal Discourse and Translation, the Center for Australian Studies, the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, the ZJU-Bristol University Language Assessment Institute, the inter-University Research Center for Applied Language Sciences (iRCALS) and the Innovation Platform for Young Teachers.
