A Group from City University of Hong Kong Visits SIS, ZJU

From Jan. 11th to Jan. 14th, 2010, a group, led by Jonathan WEBSTER, the dean of Chinese, translation and linguistics
department of City University of Hong Kong, visited School of International Studies, Zhejiang University.
During the visit, Dean Jonathan WEBSTER presented a speech named “Modeling indeterminacy in language: a
systemic-functional perspective” for teachers and students in SIS. Professor Pan Haihua talked about “The licensing
conditions of indefinite subjects in Chinese”; and Professor Fang Chengyu made a speech about “Uses of adverbial
clauses across speech and writing: a corpus-based investigation”. All the lectures were warmly welcomed by teachers
and students in SIS.
Dean Jonathan WEBSTER and Professor Pan Haihua also introduced some information about academic research and
postgraduate enrollment of Chinese, translation and linguistics department of City University of Hong Kong. They welcome
excellent students who are interested in this research fields to apply for degrees, or make academic visits.
Dean He Lianzhen from SIS, ZJU and Dean Jonathan WEBSTER signed a cooperation memorandum, in order to
improve future cooperation between each other in relevant academic fields a step further.
