Mr. Glitza, commissioner of German teachers’ training accredited by DAAD to China,
Visited the Institution of German Studies
April 26, 2010
On April 16, Mr. Glitza, commissioner of German teachers’ training accredited by German Academic Exchange
Service (DAAD) to China, paid a friendly visit to the Institution of German Studies (IGS), SIS. A seminar was held to
share experience and perspective from DAAD about training German teachers. Associate professor Li Yuan,
vice-president of IGS, held the seminar. The seminar was welcomed by Ms. Marburger, president of Institute of
Education from Technical University of Berlin and short-term visiting professor of IGS. Teachers, including
associate professor Lu Shen, vice-president from IGS, and graduate students attended this meeting.
At the beginning of the seminar, Professor Li talked about the basic information of IGS, including the
organization, research directions and achievements to help Mr. Glitza better understand the academic tradition
and strengths of IGS. Professor Li also emphasized the educational objective of SIS, which is to foster student’s
global horizon and comprehensive ability. At the end, Professor Li presented the teaching characteristics of IGS.
Mr. Glitza, on the other hand, introduced the current situation of training German teachers in Chinese colleges
and universities. He pointed out that at present there is no professional, formal system for German teachers’
training, and problems also lie in the uneven teaching levels and old teaching methods, especially among young
teachers. DAAD especially hopes to cooperate with ZJU, who has advantages and strengths in German teaching,
to establish an effective mechanism for German teachers’ training in China.
