Professor François Lecercle, dean of the French Literature and Comparative Literature Department of Paris IV, visited
Zhejiang University on May 10th. Invited by Professor Sheng Hong from SIS, he delivered a wonderful lecture about
“Violence in Drama” for all the students from SIS. After the lecture, Professor Lecercle paid a special visit to the Institute
of French Studies, and held a friendly talk with the teachers and students.
Professor Lecercle introduced the outlook of French Comparative Literature, including its historical evolution,
development process, and new research trends. He also talked about his another research field---Cross Media Studies.
During the seminar, the Professor also held a heated discussion about the “Duty of Literature Criticism” and the students
actively response to it with many issues.
After the seminar, many French major students said that they want to go on their further studies in Paris IV; Professor
Lecercle was very happy, even left his contacts to help them with more information and assistance.
Paris IV inherited the sections of Literature and Liberal Arts from the former Sorbonne University, is one of the best in the field of World Literature and Liberal Arts.
