ZJU, honored to have 52 delegates including presidents, general editors, chief editors and editors from
various presses together with experts from several colleges engaged in research of foreign language media.
Prof. Luo Weidong, the Assistant President of Zheda and Director of Social Science Research Academy
and Prof. Fan Jieping, Acting Dean of SIS addressed the opening ceremony.
Center and Director of Institute of Media for Foreign Language Teaching of ZJU, Prof. Jian Qingmin
presented a theme report, reviewing the analyses and evaluation results of the foreign language press’
affaires and collation quality since the establishment of China's Foreign Language Teaching Press Quality
Inspection Center, analyzing the integrating status and trend of the foreign language press, commenting on
the current status of the Chinese version editing and revising quality, and pointing out the necessity to
improve the editing and revising staff’s ability to apply Chinese characters.
Chinese characters, the organizer of the seminar had invited in particular Prof. He mingjian—President
of Shanghai Literature and Art Publishing Group and Chief Editor of “Using the Right Word (Yao Wen
Jiao Zi)” magazine, and Prof. He Weiyu—an expert of Chinese Characters Application Test and
former dean of the department of Chinese language of Shanghai Normal University, to give lectures for
two days. The lecture went into a thorough discussion and analysis concerning the coming status of
Chinese characters, the media’s standpoint of Chinese language, and the content and form of Chinese
Characters Application Test. Finally, experts, presidents, chief editors and editors had a group discussion
and communication.

about the developing trend of the application of Chinese characters and the standpoint the media
should hold towards the development, and discussed the content and form of Chinese Characters
Application Test. The seminar will certainly have a positive influence on the future development of foreign
language press in China.
