Sep.12, 2008, a grand welcome ceremony, hosted by the Director of the Institute of Japanese Language
and Culture—Prof. Ma Andong, was held in the conference room of SIS, ZJU for the arrival of the Youth
Delegation of Cabinet Office of Japan to Zhejiang University. Prof. Ye Gaoxiang, Deputy Secretary of
the Party Committee of ZJU, on behalf of the university, gave a welcoming speech and introduced the
university to the Japanese delegation. Present at the ceremony were the Deputy Secretary of the
Communist Youth League (CYL) Committee of Zhejiang Province, Zhou Liujun, the Deputy Secretaries
of the CYL Committee of Zhejiang University, Wu Juhui and Panjian, the Deputy Secretary of the Party
Committee of SIS, Wang Lingling and other teachers.
After the welcome ceremony, a group photo was taken of the members of the delegation and all the
participants. Then they went in 3 groups, and attended a warm and lively discussion on the topics of
mutual interest concerning education, employment, college life, cultural differences, and international
relations. With the guide of teachers from the
seminar hosted by SIS Japanese majors went on with all the Sino-Japanese students’ active
participation, where they exchanged their ideas. Both sides got a further understanding of each other
through the discussions.
In the afternoon, accompanied by ZJU students, the delegation members were shown around the
Zijinggang campus of
Science and Technology Exhibition Hall which to some degree enabled them to have an understanding
of the ancient and modern university. Afterwards, the delegates and ZJU students had a special
volleyball friendship match on the Storm-proof Playground of the campus. Students on both sides
took an active part in it, showing much of their youth and energy, which helped to further mutual friendship.
At about 7 p.m., they enjoyed a Mid-autumn party well prepared by
Students from both countries cooperated with each other to present a colorful performance and took
part in entertaining games such as “two-people running on 3 feet” and “delivering ping-pong through
barriers”. The party ended with the song “If you are happy”.
The Japanese Youth Delegation of Cabinet Office arrived in
importance to the exchange activity that they received the delegation and elaborated the detailed
itinerary personally. On Sep. 10 and 11, accompanied by Chinese representatives, the delegation
visited Mona Socks Co. Ltd, Yiwu International Trade Center, Deyi Holding Co. Ltd one after one as
well as some famous places of interest in Hangzhou such as West Lake, Leifeng Pagoda, and the
Sung Dynasty Village.
