Ceremony for the establishment of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Alumni Association of ZJU was held in Old Beijing Hotel in Moscow, Russia. Zhang Xi, Secretary of the Party Committee of ZJU, delivered a speech at the ceremony. The ceremony was attended by alumni of ZJU throughout Russia, the counselor from Embassy of China in Russia, Prof. Pang Xuequan, Acting Dean of SIS Prof. Fan Jieping, head of Office of Development and Communication, Foreign Affairs Office, College of Humanities, College
of Education, and School of Media and International Culture. Prof. Wang Yong from Institute of Russian Language and Culture, and representatives of ZJU exchange teachers and students were also present.
In the year 2007, Shen Weijun and Yang Xuming, alumni gradudted in 1989, contributed ￥500,000 to set up the “SIS Birch Siyuan Fund”(Siyuan means “never forget one’s origin”). ZJU alumni played a decisive role in establishing the association, which will provide a platform for communication between alumni in CIS countries. Aiming at bridging the gap between alumni, it will also promote the cooperation between ZJU and CIS colleges, mobilize alumni through various channels for ZJU’s scientific development, and contribute to our international education exchange programs.
The establishment of CIS Alumni Association of ZJU was a strategic choice made by SIS. By working together and uniting alumni, we strive to deepen reform and opening-up and obtain teaching resources. Undoubtedly, the association is the highlight in our efforts to practice an open school-running policy by mobilizing and taking advantage of the alumni to seek resources for the development of the school. Moreover, it is another step further towards the cultivation of all-round foreign language talents.
