Opening Ceremony Held for 2008 Preliminary Students

February 20, 2008,. a grand opening ceremony was held in Zijigang Campus for the preliminary students of 2008 who would
soon start their first semesters in university. Mrs. Wang Lingling, deputy-secretary of the Party Committee of SIS, presided over the ceremony. Present at the ceremony were leaders of SIS, among whom were Mr. Hu Songfa, the secretary of the Party
Committee of SIS, Prof. He Lianzhen, vice dean of SIS, Prof. Zhou Xing, vice dean of SIS, Madam An Wenying deputy
secretary of Party Committee of SIS, as well as the counselors of 2007 and 2008, the representative of the teachers in charge
of these new classes, the representative of the senior students of 2007, Zhang Cuncun and all the new students of 2008.

Hu Songfa, secretary of the Party Committee of SIS, made a speech on behalf of SIS. Mr. Hu Songfa congratulated the
preliminary students on their admission to the SIS of Zhejiang University. At the same time, he also gave them cordial
encouragement and made kind demands of them. He hoped that they could always keep it in mind that they are students of
SIS, adapt themselves to the new surroundings as soon as possible, make high demands of themselves on all aspects and win glory for SIS. Prof. Zhou Xing, vice dean of SIS, introduced the running characteristics of SIS in great details and gave
instructions on how to carry on studies on preparatory stage. Later, she also very patiently answered questions about majors
which were of great concern to the new students. Mrs. Zhu Xiuxiang, secretary of the Youth League of SIS, also made sincere
expectation of all the students. She hoped that they all have clear objectives, enjoy the pleasure of study and be modest, polite, united and friendly. After that, the counselor of 2007, Jun Aijin gave the new students three pieces of advice on the dual
perspective of both a counselor and a senior student. And Zhang Cuncun gave a brilliant interpretation of “Universal Love” on all aspects and inspired these new students to carry on their studies, work and lives with a heart of “Universal Love”, which
provoked ardent applauding among students.

At the final stage of free speech for the new students, all the matriculation students took an active part, telling what they wanted to say, expressing their visions of future and perception of life and so on. The opening ceremony for the preliminary students of SIS of 2008 came to a successful end.
