The 2008 International Seminar on Culture & Arts Theory Held in Hangzhou

The 2008 International Seminar on Culture & Arts Theory, co-sponsored by Zhejiang Culture & Arts
Research Institute and School of International Studies, Zhejiang University and organized by the magazine
Research of Culture & Arts, was held
on December 27. More than 40 specialists and scholars in the
culture circles attended the seminar. They were experts from universities, including Zhejiang University,
Zhejiang University of Technology, Zhejiang University of Media and Communications and Hangzhou
Normal University
and cultural departments. Mr. Jin Gengchu, inspector from the Culture Department of
Zhejiang Province and Mr. Pang Xuequan, former deputy Party secretary of Zhejiang University,
director of Department of Humanities, Zhejiang University,  were present at the seminar and gave
speeches.

       Mr. Jin said in his speech that it was largely because of the close cooperation that the protection of
intangible cultural heritage in Zhejiang Province came out top in China. Therefore, not only was the
conference a seminar on culture and arts with global outlook, but it was also a powerful move to
reinforce the further cooperation between institutes of governmental cultural departments and universities.

       Mr. Pang said that the convocation of the 2008 International Seminar on Culture & Arts Theory
showed the prosperous future of the cooperation between Zhejiang University, the Cultural Department
of Zhejiang Province and
Zhejiang Culture & Arts Research Institute.

       The specialists and scholars attending the seminar spoke enthusiastically and made dialogues and
exchanges after the opening ceremony.
They discussed and clarified issue s on culture and arts theory,
such as the popularization of the Han culture, the interpretation of the phenomena of modern arts in China
and the world, the globalization of traditional culture, the latest translations and researches on the
training methods applied by foreign theatre actors and the translation of foreign dramas in China.
