Captained by He Xiaojiao, a SIS student, with Shen Qiu from SIS, Gong Zhanyi from college of economics, Liu Zhengyang from Chu Kochen Honors College and Liu Yang from college of mechanical and energy engineering in Zhejiang University as well, the “008 Team” has won the Eco Awareness Award of 2008 Stanford University Global Entrepreneurship Week. Altogether 22
international awards have been given in the year of 2008, among those winning teams 5 are from China, and 4 of them are from
Zhejiang Province.
The 2008 Stanford University Global Entrepreneurship Innovation Tournament is organized by Stanford University of the United States. The event aims at inspiring university students’ spirit of entrepreneurship, with the originality competition as its main part. This time ZII and ASES-Zhejiang host the Entrepreneurship Week. The tournament follows the routine that Stanford organizers
announce a piece of article for daily use; then the participating teams from different regions all around the world have 4-day
research and innovation to discover the peculiar value of this item and finally need to make a 3-minute video to display the special function.
The title for this year’s competition was “Water Bottles”, and “008 Team” named their work “We Have Only One ‘Water
Bottle’”. Because the 70% of earth’s surface is water, they conceived the globe as a water bottle. In their video presentation, a
blue water bottle was used to stand for the earth, the dropping ink into the bottle meaning the gradual pollution made on our
planet. When the bottle has totally turned into black, pictures appeared to appeal for water protection. Then the ink was
drawn drop by drop, indicating that with the in-time awareness of human beings, the water resources could turn back as
clean as it used to be. Their novel idea which was closely associated with world hot topic of environmental protection has
gained a general acclaim.
These five students’ spark of inspiration has left a deep impression on the audience, which completely shows the excellence of “Qiushi students”. Their outstanding performance also presents that Zhejiang University is on its way to the world and
internationalization.
