In the afternoon of Dec. 4th, Mr. Sergey Paltov, the vice consul-general of the Russian Federation in Shanghai,
together with Mrs. Paltov and others, paid a visit to School of International Studies, Zhejiang University. On the
invitation of Russian recital and writing contest, which is a display of Russian culture in the Russian Week within
20th International Festival of Culture of Zhejiang University, Mr. Paltov met with Professor He Lianzhen, the
dean of SIS, and Shen Jie, the deputy director of office of international relations, Zhejiang University. All
teachers and students in Institute of Russian Language & Culture, Zhejiang University, also took part in the
activity.
Dean He Lianzhen preceded her speech with a welcome to vice consul-general Mr. Paltov and students from
Russia for taking part in the Russian Week within 20th International Festival of Culture of Zhejiang University.
She said that SIS has a close relationship with Russian Universities, and the Russian studies in SIS have a long
history with sending exchange students to Russian Universities every year. Dean He introduced further for the
Russian guests about the general situation and education orientation of SIS, the achievements of exchange
students and visiting scholars from SIS in Russia. She affirmed the education and development of students
made by all faculties of Institute of Russian Language & Culture. The vice consul-general Mr. Paltov said
that he was very pleased to come to SIS again, and he expressed his gratitude to Zhejiang University for
holding the activity of ‘Russian Week’ during Chinese ‘2009 Russian Year’. He also appreciated the cooperation
and communication between SIS and Russian Universities. The deputy director Shen Jie acknowledged
thankfulness for the constant support and concern for foreign exchanges of Zhejiang University by Consulate
General of the Russian Federation in Shanghai in his address.
Then, Mr. Paltov attended himself and acted as judging panel of the Russian recital and writing contest
participated by students from all four grades of Institute of Russian Language & Culture. After the contest
the certificates are presented to winners by vice consul-general Mr. Paltov, Dean He Lianzhen and deputy
director Shen Jie respectively.
Mr. Paltov also answered the questions raised by students concerning about fields like education, economy and
culture etc. He gifted some Russian books to SIS. The appearance of language level and knowledge in Russian
culture of Russian majors from SIS was highly appreciated by Mr. Paltov. He also spoke highly of full range
education orientation of SIS. Dean He thanked again for Mr. Paltov’s visit and said that the visit has brought great
encouragement for students’ activity in SIS. She hoped that SIS could hold more cooperation projects with
famous universities in Russia, to improve the international communication between each other.
