Jieping, Chairman of Zhejiang Translation Association, and Acting Dean of School of International Studies of Zhejiang
University
. They gave passionate speeches respectively on the further prosperity of the philosophical and social sciences, the
advancement of the cultural construction in Zhejiang Province, as well as the vigorous implementation of the Going Abroad
Strategy for the philosophical and social sciences among colleges and universities of Zhejiang Province. They thus encouraged the community of philosophical and social sciences to make full use of their thoughts for the interest of the country and the
people. It was also advocated that the talents and their excellent works in the field of philosophical and social sciences should go global.

Also present in the conference were administrators from 13 publishing houses, including Zhejiang People’s Publishing House,
Zhejiang People’s Fine Arts Publishing House, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, Zhejiang Literature and Art Publishing House, Zhejiang Youth and Children Publishing House, Zhejiang Education Publishing House, Zhejiang Ancient
Books Publishing House, Zhejiang Photographic Press, Zhejiang University Press, China Academy of Art Press, Hangzhou
Publishing House and Ningbo Publishing House.

The conference was also joined by 17 translation experts from Zhejiang University, Zhejiang Science and Technology University, Zhejiang University of Finance and Economy, Zhejiang University of Science and Technology.

During the two-day conference, focusing on the theme of promoting the internationalization of books published in Zhejiang
Province, participants put forth various practical ideas for the development of Zhejiang culture, the “going abroad” of the excellent books in Zhejiang Province, and the advancement of Chinese academy. They commonly agreed that, it was the obligation of the whole foreign language circle of Zhejiang Province to expand the international influence of the province’s outstanding books,
prosper the philosophical and social sciences, and enhance the understanding of Chinese culture and academy by people from other countries and regions, thus reaching the goal of spreading the influence of Chinese culture and accelerating the
establishment of a harmonious society and peaceful world as a whole. School of International Studies of Zhejiang University will play a key role in the process, for it is the school equipped with the most complete language subjects in the province including English, Russian, Japanese, German, French, Italian and Spanish.

Participants pointed out the fact that our publications did not enjoy enough international influence for the hindrance from the
difficulty to find entry into the western mainstream literature circle, which should be improved with our strong resolutions.
Towards the end of the conference, extensive discussions were also conducted among experts on a wide range of topics: the
essence of Chinese cultural traditions, the favor of western mainstream culture, the relationship between translation and
academic studies, the cooperation between domestic and foreign experts, as well as the relation between universities and
publishing houses.

It is commonly agreed by all participants that, promoting the going abroad of the books published in Zhejiang Province is a
grand cultural project challenged with huge difficulties, due to its requirement of broad involvement. Therefore, the success of
the task cannot be achieved without the close and sincere cooperation among governmental departments concerned, the
academic community and the publishing circle.
