Communication and Sakura Strengthen the Relationship between China and Japan

March 6th,2007,SIS

In the afternoon of March 6th, Japanese teachers and students majoring in Japanese at SIS of Zhejiang University as
well as students from other universities attended the lecture on “To Step Forward to the eciprocal Relationship between
China and Japan”, held by Prof. Toshihiko Kinoshita from Waseda University.

Based on the present relationship between China and Japan, Prof. Kinoshita expressed his own opinions on the following
heated issues: ‘the relationship between China and Japan’, ‘the south Korea nuclear issue’, and ‘the energy
resources problem’ and etc. Prof. Kinoshita considered that in order to deepen the understanding of the two nations; more
communications should be carried out, especially the ‘Grassroots Communication’ between the young people. He also
mentioned that the Japanese learners should act as the bridge between China and Japan. And he was expecting the students
to make a good contribution to the communication between China and Japan. After answering the
questions raised by the
teachers and students, Prof. Kinoshita and his colleagues had a very nice talk with them.

After the lecture, Prof. Kinoshita and the students went to plant Sakura together to the west of the Qizheng Lake in ZJG
Campus, which indicated the friendship between China and Japan. Both Mr. Zhujun, Vice president of Zheda, and the Japanese
consul general in shanghai delivered a speeche. Then the visitors, teachers and students planted the 100 Sakura donated
by the Japanese friends together and took a group photo before the Sakura. This activity is one part of the ‘Grassroots Communication’
programs which aim at developing the relationship between the youth of the two nations’. Next year, the 100 Sakura will
be in their full bloom near the Qizheng Lake, symbolizing the perpetual friendship between China and Japan.
