At 6:30 p.m., Dec.18th, 2005, the closing ceremony of the 16th Foreign Languages Festival and the final of Foreign Languages Singing Contest begin with a melody in the theater on Zijingang Campus. This is a happy ending and everyone enjoys it.
The Foreign Languages Festival is one of the oldest and most reputed activities in ZJU as well as among colleges and universities in Zhejiang Province. It includes speech contest, drama, lectures, salons, translation contest and writing contest, etc. providing a stage for ZJU students to present their talents and emotions.
With Hang Zhou World Leisure Expo 2006 and Me as the theme, the 16th Foreign Languages Festival aims at igniting the enthusiasm in learning English and getting ready for the expo among the students and citizens as well. To some extent, this is a perfect integration of science, culture and economy for the mass.
The 16th Festival lasts for one month. All kinds of activities fill the participants with laughter and joy, and sweet memories.
For the writing contest, the theme is The Story Between Foreign Languages and Me. Students who take part in the contest write to share their unforgettable stories related to foreign languages, which are rather emotional and touching.
In the “Nanxun Cup” Translation Contest, students from different majors and colleges participate in the fierce competition. A great number of outstanding students find it the right place for them to show their talents.
Foreign Movie Series are quite popular with the students, which is considered as both an entertainment and a chance to get closer with authentic English.
English Salon is a major part. Classical English songs, humorous mini English plays are popular among the students.
A wide range of lectures are arranged: lectures on CET 4 and CET 6, lectures on English entrance exam for graduate study, lectures on TOEFL, IELTS and GRE, etc. Such kinds of tests are closely tied with most of the students’study. Through the lectures, they may get proper instructions for their own plans.
The Second Foreign Food Culture Festival presents the students with the opportunity to try delicious western food. This is the most direct way to get to know about the western culture.
Foreign Languages Singing Contest is the climax. It has been the prime of the Foreign Languages Festival ever since its first appearance. Sweet foreign songs add to the exotic flavor of the festival.
