In order to act in the spirit of the National Science and Technology Conference, SIS held a meeting on the afternoon of February
22, 2006. Members of SIS Leading Group for Application for Major Projects attended the meeting, which was the first meeting
since the group had been set up. Prof. Fan Jieping, acting Dean of SIS, presided over the meeting, with the participation of 11
professors, including Hu Songfa, Party Secretary of SIS and Prof. Yin Qiping, Vice Dean of SIS. Prof. Fan kept the conferees
informed about the spirits of the conferences recently held in Zhejiang University. At the meeting, they had detailed discussions
about “Major Scientific Research Projects in Philosophy and Social Sciences of Ministry of Education” and “Major Projects in
Social Sciences in the Provincial Plans”. The meeting unanimously acknowledged that the success of innovation lay in
interdisciplinary research and intimate teamwork. The application for the major research projects should keep in line with the
demands of the medium- and long-term development of our country. Only when we strategically selected new and interdisciplinary
research topics of profound social and academic influences, a breakthrough in the crux filed would be obtained.
The whole meeting last 3 hours with heated discussions, which would surely promote further development and
would bring SIS research activities to a new stage.
