From April 17 to 21, an in-depth survey of website construction and maintenance of the 12 institutes was carried out in SIS. Surveyors
had face-to-face communication with the director and the information technician of each institute except those in Institute of Foreign
Language Teaching due to their tight schedule. They talked about the current situation of institutes’ website construction,
problems to be solved as well as aims to be achieved. Besides, they put forward to the college suggestions and advice
on better operation and perfection of websites.
In general, the construction of the institutes’ websites goes on wheel. At present, each institute has set up their own website and
is working hard on the maintenance and update of information while those without a website are making all efforts. And it is
particularly touching to learn that the website construction of many institutes is carried out in the teachers’ spare time
and that some of the teachers even get their family members involved By now, half of the institutes have set up an English
website and the rest are underway.
In the information age, it is especially crucial for the SIS to carry out the website construction and maintenance in order to
realize effective operation, development, publicity as well as exchange and cooperation. The website construction of Institutes,
an essential part of the online information management of the school, is even a display of research ability of the institutes and the
school, and an effective means of better international communication.
“This platform on the Internet is the most important way of getting opportunities of academic exchanges and international cooperation
for the institutes; and website construction is a major part of the routine of the institutes”, said Professor Xu Shi, Director of the
Institute of Discourse and Cultural Studies, SIS.
Now it is the common belief among all the institutes that website construction means a lot to the unity of the school, helps carry
out exchanges and cooperation and improves working efficiency. Therefore, greater importance is attached to the online
information management of the institutes.
During the survey and communication, institutes also aired their views and put forward suggestions on better technical performance,
service as well as related support for improving the website construction concerning the problems about the website construction of
the institutes and the school,.
