10 a.m. April 26, 2006, the members of Institute of English Literature met in 201 meeting room for the lecture given by
Prof. Li De’en from Beijing Foreign Studies University, Subeditor of the journal Foreign Literature.
Prof. Li made his special visit to SIS in order to introduce his ideas for the compilation of Foreign Literature Dictionary
as well as to seek chances for cooperation. According to his introduction, this bran-new reference book on foreign literature
will give prominence to foreign languages as materials, all-around introductions and practicability. With a distinctive feature of
“four combinations” between historical data and literary quotations, Chinese translation and original text, classic literature
and pop literature, as well as authors with critics, it will give a systematic introduction to authors throughout the world,
centering on those 20th century young and brilliant authors. Besides, this dictionary also is supposed to cover all kinds of
literature schools, organizations, journals and all kind of literature awards, with a total of no less than 5 million words. After
collecting some ideas and advice from the members of Institute of English Literature, Prof. Li also put forward his intention of
cooperation on the compiling of this dictionary, which aroused great interest in all the teachers present.
