Prof. Luo Guoxiang from Wuhan University gives lectures

November 30, 2007, Prof. Luo Guoxiang, accompanied by his wife, visited SIS of ZJU and gave lectures. He serves as the
deputy dean of the School of International Affairs, the Director of Institute of French Language and Culture in Wuhan University, and also the Chief Editor of “Studies Francaises”.

Based on the theme of “the Beauty of the Philology”, Prof. Luo elaborated on the origin and the development of literature and
displayed some of his achievements. Making the once seemingly abstruse theories lucid and plain, the classic examples and
the accurate historical materials or data juiced up the lecture. It was the professor’s profound knowledge, charming manner and witty remarks that won upon all the audience and lightened up the get-together. After the lecture, he gave brief but lucid
suggestions to the students and patiently answered their questions. With the warm, brisk and friendly atmosphere, the lecture was a great success.

Besides serving as the deputy dean of the School of International Affairs, the Director of Institute of French Language and
Culture in Wuhan University, and the editor in chef of Studies Francaises, Prof. Luo Guoxiang also is also a specialist of the
assessing group of the Projects supported by National Philosophy and Social Science Foundation of China. He has issued over a hundred academic papers on the key scholarly journals home and broad. His works published covering theoretic studies,
literary translations, and academic monographs, and bilingual compilations, totaling 21 in number. The 5 projects he has
undertaken and accomplished include the Project Sponsored by the Foundation for the Social Science Research, State
Education Commission, and the Project Sponsored by the Foundation for the Returned Overseas Chinese Scholars, State
Education Ministry, and the China-Europe Cooperative Project for Higher Education (mainly the development of curriculum) ,and the Project Sponsored by the State Foundation for the Social Science Research, and the Project Sponsored by the Fund of
French State Research Center. Now he is engaged in the joint project between China and Europe,” ‘one’ and ‘many’-----the
research on the cultural background of economy and the coordination of law of EU”. With great achievements in his researching field, esp. in the field of Aesthetics of novels, Prof. Luo Guoxiang shows his brilliance in this filed and has been invited and given numerous lectures at various colleges, universities and institutions of higher learning at home and abroad.
