On September 10th, 2003 , Prof. Shen Dan of Beijing University, the youngest female doctoral advisor of Humanities in our country and J. Hillis Miller of the University of California, who has worked in great universities like Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and Hopkins gave lectures at college of Foreign Languages.
The first report , given by Prof. Shen Dan , was entitled " Two Different Aspects of Novel Styles". The report was centered about her latest academic achievement . Prof Shen Dan is the first scholar who combined the study of narrate and stylistics in novel research. In her report she introduced the relation between these two aspects with the analysis of Hemingway' works. She offered much precious research advice to the audience.
The second report entitled "The Ghost Effect: Intertextuality in Realistic Fiction"was given by Prof. Miller. He is over seventy , but very enthusiastic. With a brand-new approach to novel statistics, he introduced his "parasitic effect" research on realistic fiction with the example of G. Eliot's Middlemarch.
The two reports attracted teachers, students of the college and many others from College of Humanities.
