On April 1, 2006, the international Russian academic seminar on “Language, Culture and Communication”
opened on the beautiful Zi Jingang Campus of Zhejiang University.
This seminar was co-organized by Institute of Russian Language and Culture of SIS, ZJU, Center for Russian Studies of Shanghai
International Studies University, Russian Department of Shanghai International Studies University, Center for Russian Language
and Literature Studies of Heilongjiang University, the Association of Chinese Teachers of Russian Language and Literature.
More than 160 specialists and scholars from colleges and scientific research institutes of over 10 countries took part in this
event, including China, Russia, Kazakhstan, kirghizia, Ukraine, Yugoslavia, Britain, Canada, Italy, Turkey and Japan.
At the opening ceremony, Professor Ye Gaoxiang, Vice-Secretary of the Party Committee of ZJU, delivered a welcome speech on behalf
of ZJU to the specialists and scholars present. He wished the seminar a great success and positive remarks were delivered to
the accomplishment and progress ZJU achieved during its development based on truth and innovation.
Professor Fan Jieping, Acting Dean of SIS, also presented to the guests his pleasure to friends coming from afar. He spoke highly
of the accomplishment of the Institute of Russian Language and Culture, SIS, ZJU, which was the result of collaborative effort and
endeavor of the whole stuff.
Professor Zheng Tiwu, Vice President of the Association of Chinese Teachers of Russian Language and Literature, delivered support
and best wishes to this seminar on behalf of the association; and he mentioned that the seminar was the greatest in the past 20 years.
Prof. Liu Limin, President of the Association of Chinese Teachers of Russian Language and Literature, said in the greeting letter that
“it is of special meaning for Zhejiang University to undertake this grand event of international Russian academic seminar during the
Year of Russia in China. We believe that will certainly highlight the activity of Year of Russia and will be recorded in the history of
China’s development in Russian teaching and researches. ”
Well-known scholars, Professor Мая Всевородава and Professor Виктория Красных from Moscow State University, Professor Mike·Nixon from Oxford University and Professor Wang Yangzheng from Institute of Russian Language and Culture, SIS, ZJU gave brilliant academic lectures during the seminar respectively.
This seminar covered a wide range of topics, from linguistics, literature to translation studies, from theoretic research to research of teaching, from traditional disciplines to rising disciplines and inter-disciplines. During the concurrent sessions, specialists and scholars voiced their views one after another. Their reports well displayed new breakthroughs and innovation in research fields, research methods and research scope. In particular, scholars from abroad joined the discussions with high spirit and passion. Some scholars, both home and abroad, continued their discussion after session was over.
At the closing ceremony on April 3, Wang Mingyu, Assistant to the President and Dean of College of Russian of Heilongjiang University, drew a concise conclusion to the seminar that it was a great event with clear theme, wide range of topics, careful planning and impassioned environment, that it presented the great charm of Zhejiang University, the superiority of Paradise, the City of Hang Zhou, as well as tender regards of the Russian people towards China, and that this seminar would surely help further the cooperation between China and Russia.
In the end, Professor Wang Yangzheng, host of this seminar and Director of Institute of Russian Language and Culture, SIS,
expressed great gratitude and respect to the participants and looked forward to a second gathering near the beautiful West Lake in
Hang Zhou.
With the great support from the university, colleges and counterparts, the international Russian academic seminar on “Language,
Culture and Communication” came to a satisfactory end.
