Prof. Beatrice Knerr Lectured on “High-quality Immigration” in SIS

At 3:30 pm, May 17th, invited by the Institute of German studies and Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Zhejiang University, Prof. Beatrice Knerr, expert on immigration and head of the Department of Agriculture Policy and development economics, Kassel University, delivered a report on “The Mobility of International High-quality Immigrants and the International Fight for High-quality Labor” at Room 301, East 6. Prof. Li Yuan, deputy director of the Institute of German studies, hosted the lecture. Present at the lecture were the students who major in German or China Studies.

 

Prof. Beatrice Knerr has made great contributions to many research fields, such as the European immigrants and social integration, population migration, immigration policy and immigration history, which ensures her with high academic prestige. With detailed data and cases, she introduced the cause and effect of international high-quality immigration, and the current situation of the high-quality immigrants in Germany from both micro and macro aspects. This report did not only provide the latest data, but also analyzed the development trend of high-quality immigrants in Germany with various theories about German immigrant community, internationalization of universities and immigration policy. Besides, with increasing need for international talent introduction and more and more intense completion, the lecture also discussed what Germany should do to attract high-quality immigrants as a receiver of talent and the problems which it is faced with. After the lecture, Prof. Knerr discussed several concrete issues with the students as well.

 

Through this lecture, the students present deepened their understanding for German high-quality immigration as well as the speculative knowledge for immigration studies. Prof. Knerr was employed as cooperative professor in March, 2011. This was her second visit to Zhejiang University.
