Prof. Nabers from University of Keele Visited SIS

On March 18, Dr. Dirk Nabers, the head of the Research Group on International Political Sociology at the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Keele, and the director of the Department of International Relation Research at the Institute of Asian Studies, Hamburg, started his three-day visit to the Institute of German Studies (IGS), SIS. During the visit, Prof. FAN, the director of IGS, made a deep conversation with him centering on the cooperation in terms of scientific research and project, academic exchange, as well as dual-degree program.

 

On the afternoon of March 19, Prof. Nabers delivered a lecture named “Culture, Identification and Collective Behavior”, which attracted over 60 German majors and oversea students from the Faculty of Arts and Humanity. In his lecture, Prof. Nabers interpreted the definitions of culture and identification in sociology from the theoretical aspect and pointed out its application scale in political science and international relations area. He said that especially in this globalized society, collective and international behaviors was profoundly influenced by culture and identification, therefore the mobility and interdependency of culture and identification should be understood in depth and also considered as an important point of view in international relation studies. In addition, Prof. Nabers introduced the research results and research direction in this area at University of Keele. All seats were occupied and the audience responded actively by asking questions and applauding. They discussed with Prof. Nabers on issues such as culture and identification, Sino-Germany relationship and its development tendency as well as China’s image in Germany, which proves to be fruitful. This lecture was hosted by associate professor LIU Yue and attended by Prof. LI Yuan, the deputy director of IGS, and other teachers.

 

After the interscholastic cooperation agreement was signed by University of Keele and ZJU in 1984, both sides has developed extensive and deep cooperation in many areas including medicine, agriculture, law, humanity, and so on.
