Mrs. Mylene HARDY, the Representative of Paris Institute of Political Studies in China, Delivered a Lecture

On May 6th, at the invitation of the Institute of French Language and Culture, Mrs. Mylene HARDY, the representative of Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po) in China and former commissioner for education, language and sport of SCAC (Service de Coopération et d'Action Culturelle), revisited our school. She introduced the situation of Paris Institute of Political Studies for the non-graduating undergraduate students and teachers from the Institute of French Language and Culture in detail and offered many suggestions in the application of graduate and exchange programs. She also delivered a lecture entitled “Développer ses compétences en compéhension du monde contemporain”.

 

Mrs. Mylene HARDY highlighted the importance of logical and critical capability. She said, “Not only Paris Institute of Political Studies but also most universities in France and even the world value these capabilities nowadays.” And then, she articulated the way to understand the society and the world from diversified perspectives of history, economics, sociology, and so on. Through leading students to read two documents minutely, she illustrated the approach to reading and analyzing materials in hand. She said “apart from the superficial knowledge of the degree, type and fields of the key words, we need to analyze the implicit attitudes and status of the author between the lines.” She also stressed that the core of logic and criticism lies in the observation and analysis of certain phenomenon from multiple perspectives, beginning with understanding the school of thought which the author belongs to.How to build diversified perspectives? She encourages students to make use of the spare time to extensively dabble in many other fields as well as to actively join the activities inside or outside of school so as to accumulate experience, which can not only broaden one’s view, enhance one’s abilities, but also conduce to comprehensive understand the society and the world.

 

After the lecture, she made a detailed introduction of the general situation of Paris Institute of Political Studies. Besides exhibiting part of the alumni and the major employment orientation, she expounded the concrete admission requirements and education of each college and disciplines for those students who intended to apply for the graduate programs. She reminded students to connect major and future career practically and to make a profound and adequate plan. In the meanwhile, she also referred to the exchange programs between Zhejiang University and Paris Institute of Political Studies and offered suggestions and instruction concerning the study in France for students who intended to apply for the program. She also discussed and communicated with teachers and students after the meeting.

 

From this two-hour lecture, the students received not only the conditions of applying for Paris Institute of Political Studies, but also the ways to understand the society, the world and life.
