A delegation from University of Marburg was invited to pay a visit to the Institute of German Studies (IGS) on November 6th, 2014. The delegation was made up of 4 members, including Ms. Kienle, the director of Foreign Affairs Office of University of Marburg, Ms. Jones, the coordinator of the strategic and cooperative relationship program between Zhejiang University and University of Marburg, Professor Kleinschmidt, the director of Department of History and Culture, and Professor Stuchtey as well. During the afternoon meeting, Professor Li Yuan and the delegation had an in-depth discussion in strengthening research and project cooperation between two universities, improving exchanges between different disciplines, building dual bachelor’s degree program, and facilitating undergraduates to study overseas for interdisciplinary degrees. Associate Professor Liu Yue of IGS and representative students attended the meeting as well.

The meeting was held by Professor Li Yuan, who is the vice president of the School of International Studies and deputy director of the IGS. In the welcome speech, she first briefly introduced the current circumstance of the IGS, showed its major research achievements and demonstrated its ideas and methods in cultivating students with international visions. After then, the delegation of University of Marburg also introduced their disciplinary classification, relative research areas and accomplishments. Both sides had highly affirmed their existent cooperation and deeply discussed the possible research areas and prerequisites of a future cooperation. The discussion went well in a lively atmosphere and professors from both sides had effectively exchanged theirs thoughts.

Founded in 1527, Hessen, University of Marburg is an Institute of Higher Education with a long history. This visit is part of an ongoing strategic partnership project conducted between Zhejiang University and University of Marburg, named “Tradition, Trust & Future”. The project officially began in Sep, 2013, and will last to 2016. Supported by DAAD, the project is aimed to promote multidisciplinary exchanges, enhance and deepen the international academic cooperation. For both universities, this visit has created a broader platform for future collaborative research on related disciplines in humanities and history.
