On the afternoon of March 18, 2016, presentation of Interpretation Program of University of Bath was held in Qinghe Coffee Bar in School of International Studies. University of Bath, founded in 1966, enjoys a high reputation in the UK. Over the years, University of Bath comes out at the top of the ranking list of British universities made by independent accrediting organizations. In the past two years, it was one of the five best universities in The Times Good University Guide. Its world-famous simultaneous interpretation project has cultivated a lot of excellent interpreters for the United Nations and Ministry of Foreign Affairs in different places.

School of International Studies at Zhejiang University and University of Bath have been discussing cooperation details since last summer and now is at the stage of signing an agreement, which includes MATBI (MA translation with Business Interpreting) (Chinese) and a traditional project MAIT (MA Interpreting & translating).

There are three cooperating modes of this interpretation program:

3 + 1 mode: Undergraduates at School of International Studies complete all undergraduate courses and gain required credits in Zhejiang University within three years and then apply for the interpretation program at University of Bath.

4 + 1 mode: Undergraduates at School of International Studies complete all undergraduate courses and gain required credits in Zhejiang University within four years and then apply for the interpretation program at University of Bath.

1 + 1 mode: Graduates at School of International Studies study graduate courses in Zhejiang University in the first year and then apply for the postgraduate courses and degree provided in the cooperating program of University of Bath in the second year. After meeting the degree requirements of both Zhejiang University and University of Bath, including getting required credits and finishing dissertation of the two universities, graduates will be granted a masters degree from the two universities.

This time, Miguel Fialho, project leader of University of Bath, came to Zhejiang University to interview the students who have applied for the interpretation program in 2016 and held the project presentation which was divided into three parts.

First, Miguel Fialho introduced curricula and the purpose and significance of each course, including documentary translation, consecutive interpreting, liaison & public service interpreting, mini conference and some elective courses, such as public speaking and translation tools. He also introduced specific admission requirements and the selecting mode. Then, Miguel Fialho presented us an overview of University of Bath and the city of Bath. University of Bath, the safest universities in the UK, is rich in culture and vitality and has comprehensive facilities and beautiful scenery. In the last Q & A session, Miguel Fialho further pointed out the advantages of interpretation projects of University of Bath compared with other domestic MTI projects. University of Bath, possessing numerous disciplines, has a good environment of language and a strong atmosphere of English culture, which contributes to the study of basic general knowledge and background knowledge required for interpreting.

Humorous Miguel Fialho gave a detailed introduction to the interpretation programs in the one-and-a-half hour presentation and students benefited a lot from it.
