International Conference on “Interdisciplinary Studies on Russian Literature and Art” Rounded Off

The international conference on “Interdisciplinary Studies on Russian Literature and Art”, co-organized by the Association of Chinese Teachers of Russian Language and Literature, the Association of Russian Literature of China and the School of International Studies (SIS) of Zhejiang University under the framework of the International Association of Teachers of Russian, was held successfully at Yuanzheng Qizhen Hotel on Zijingang Campus of Zhejiang University on April 16th and 17th, 2016. More than 20 representatives from Russia, Kazakhstan, Britain, America and other countries and over 100 scholars in Russian academia from more than 40 domestic universities, such as Peking University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Shanghai International Studies University, Nanjing University and Heilongjiang University, were present at this conference.

The opening ceremony of this academic conference, witnessed by Russian researchers all over the world, was held at 8:45 a.m. on April 16th and hosted by Prof. Wang Yong, Deputy Director of Faculty of Humanities and Director of Institute of Russian Language and Culture of the SIS, Zhejiang University. At the opening ceremony, Prof. Yan Jianhua, Vice President of Zhejiang University, extended his warmest welcome to all delegates on behalf of ZJU in his cordial speech; Prof. Chu Chaofu, Secretary of the Communist Party Committee and Vice Dean of the SIS, delivered an opening speech, saying that this international conference provided an excellent opportunity for academic exchanges among Russian researchers and for teaching reforms and research and expressing wish that this conference would promote the Russian discipline of ZJU to carry out more and better cooperation with foreign and domestic universities and academic institutions; Prof. Zheng Tiwu from Shanghai International Studies University, member of presidium of International Association of Teachers of Russian, read the congratulatory message delivered by the IATR which mentioned that this conference was conducive to explore new research interests in literature, art, linguistics, cultural studies and translation studies; the Association of Chinese Teachers of Russian Language and Literature also stressed the importance of this conference in the interdisciplinary studies on Russian literature in its congratulatory letter; Prof. Liu Wenfei, President of the Association of Russian Literature of China, delivered a speech on behalf of the Association, considering interdisciplinary studies as the academic frontier at present and sincerely wishing the conference a complete success.

After the opening ceremony, all the participants took a group photo at the hotel, leaving a precious memory for the conference.

                                             

In the plenary meeting, Russian Prof. Кондаков И.В. and Prof. Андреев С.Н., English Prof. Майкл Никольсон, American Prof. Строканов А.А. and Chinese Prof. Wang Jiezhi, Prof. Huang Zhonglian and Prof. Wang Yong delivered speeches respectively from cultural studies, linguistics, poetics, history, translation studies, art and other aspects, attracting strong reactions from all participants.

In the breakout sessions of “Russian Literature and Cultural Studies”, “Russian Literature and Poetics”, “Russian Literature and Linguistics”, “Russian Literature and Art”, “Russian Literature and Translation Studies” and “Russian Literature and Other Disciplines”, nearly 70 domestic and foreign scholars shared their academic researches, enriching the contents of this conference.

In the summary, the representatives of all sub-sessions concluded their research results. Finally, Prof. Wang Yong gave a closing speech, saying that although this conference was coming to an end, it was only a wonderful scene on the academic stage of Russian literature and art and there would be more exciting scenes to be expected. The conference ended with warm applauses from all participants.

The conference deepens the interdisciplinary researches on Russian literature and art and promotes the development of the Institute of Russian Language and Culture of the SIS, Zhejiang University. We sincerely hope more grand events like this can be held in the future and wish the studies on Russian literature and art more vigorous development!
