Lecture by Professor Kevin Paterson from University of Leicester, UK Held Successfully

     On the afternoon of May 29, 2018, Professor Kevin Paterson from the College of Psychology, University of Leicester, UK gave a wonderful lectureThe Aging Effect of Eye Movement Behavior in Reading” atBuilding East 5-201, Zhejiang University. The lecture waspresided overby Professor Wang Xiaolu.

  

Professor Patersonstatedthe significance of thestudieson reading cognition of the elderly and the frontier information of the related research,in particular,the research of eye movement control whilethe elderlyread Chinese and Englishtexts, including the purpose, experimental process and research results. It is foundoutthat theelderly’sreading Chinese is mainly influenced bywordfrequency, the complexity of Chinese characters, the length and predictability of words, etc., andthere are similarities and differences between the elderly’sreading Chinese and Englishtexts.

Students and teachers had active interactions withProfessor Kevin Patersonin the Q & A session onexperimental design and data analysis.

  

After the lecture, Professor Paterson, accompanied by Professor Wang Xiaolu, visited the Language Cognitive Laboratory oftheSIS, gave guidance on the operation of related experiments, answered the questions, and hadfurtherexchange withstudents andteachers, whichhelpedimprove the technical level of eye movement experiment of postgraduate students of SIS.
