Students from School of International Studies Participating in the 9thChina-Japan-ROK Youth Forum

From August 27 to September 1, 2018, hosted by UNA-ROK and co-organized by UNA-China and UNA-Japan, “the 9thChina-Japan-ROK Youth Forum” was held in Paju, ROK. Students participating in the Forum included 20 Japanese students from universities such as the University of Tokyo and Waseda University, 40 Korean students from universities like Yonsei University and Kyung Hee University, together with 20 Chinese students from Peking University and Renmin University of China, etc. At the invitation of UNA-China, Jiang Ranchen, a junior majoring in Germany and Hu Wenjie, a senior majoring in translation from Global Engagement Program (GEP) participated in the Forum on behalf of Zhejiang University.

The five-day Youth Forum was composed of a Model UN Conference, a Youth Symposium and cultural activities. The MUN Conference was divided into two councils, namely, “International Response and Prevention of Terrorism and Violent Extremism” and “The Role of the UN and International Community in the Mainstreaming of Human Rights—To Commemoratethe 70thAnniversary ofUniversal Declaration of Human Rights”.In the Youth Symposium, theydealt with“Promoting Gender Equality” and “Facilitating Environmental Protection/Climate Change Cooperation of East Asia” in group discussions, achievements presentation and dialogue. Hu Wenjie and Jiang Ranchen were respectively the presidium member and national representative of the MUN Conference. They actively exchanged their ideas with other participants, fully showing global vision and professional qualities.

They both benefited a lot from the forum. Hu Wenjie felt that “theYouth Forum provides a platform for exchanges among youth of the three countries, and their representatives proposed solutions of younger generation to hot issues with joint efforts.” Jiang Ranchen believed that “the 9thChina-Japan-ROK Youth Forum has further strengthened the mutual understanding of the youth from the three countries, enhanced their friendship, broadened their global vision and made significant contributions to the common development and prosperity of East Asia.”

Since 2010, the Trilateral Conference ofUNA-China, UNA-Japan and UNA-ROK as well as the Youth Forum have been held in the three countries in turn. In 2019, they will be held in Tokyo, Japan.
