Warm Congratulations on Prof. Cheng Le’s Election as Vice President of the International Academy of Linguistic Law

 

On March 3, 2019, the Academic Committee Conference of the International Academy of Linguistic Law (IALL) was held in Montreal, Canada, where the Academic Committee voted to elect Joseph-G. Turi as President and Secretary-General of IALL, and Cheng Le as Vice President.

 

Founded in Montreal and Paris in September 1984, IALL is one of the most influential academic organizations in the field of linguistic law with more than 500 members. It aims to offer a platform for jurists, linguists and sociologists worldwide to discuss and explore interdisciplinary issues, including linguistic diversity, language contacts and conflicts, law and language. The academy holds a biennialconference on linguistic law and the 16th conference will be held in Poland at the end of June this year.

Bio of Prof. Cheng Le



Cheng Le, male, Vice Dean and professor of School of International Studies of Zhejiang University, dual-employed professor of Guanghua Law School of ZJU, Director of the Institute of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies, the Center for Modern Chinese Discourse Research, and the Center for Legal Discourse and Translation of ZJU. Meanwhile, he also works as researcher of China University of Political Science and Law, professor of School of Transnational Law of Peking University, President of the World Association of Legal Interpreting and Translation, Vice President and General-Secretary of Multicultural Association of Law and Language, Vice President of the International Academy of Linguistic Law. Besides, he holds editing posts of journals in the field of legal semiotics, namely, chief editor of International Journal of Legal Discourse, editorial board member of international journals including Semiotica and Social Semiotics, associate editor of the International Journal for the Semiotics of Law, International Journal of Semiotics and Visual RhetoricsLanguage and Law. He mainly studies on the science of law, legal discourse and translation, linguistic law and planning, semiotics, language for specific purposes, corpus linguistics, etc. In recent years, he has published more than 30 papers in international authoritative journals, such as SSCI, A&HCI, Legal Journal Index and so on. He has also written, complied and translated more than 30 books through the cooperation with well-known presses at home and abroad, including Routledge, De Gruyter, Springer, Cambridge University Press, Zhejiang University Press, Renmin University of China Press, China University of Political Science and Law Press. Other works such as Introduction to International Organizations and Law of International Organization are to be published by Zhejiang University Press.
