The Department of Public English Teaching consists of the Center for College English Teaching and the Center for Postgraduate English Teaching, which both aim at improving English teaching for non-English majors and reforming English exams for them under the guidance of China's Standards of English Language Ability released by MOE. The textbook series New College English, which it developed, was awarded Quality Textbook of the 11th Five-year Plan period and of the 12th Five-year Plan period. The English course for undergraduates won National Quality Course and National Quality Course for Sharing awards; and the English course for postgraduates has now been turned into a MOOC. There is also an English Writing Center under this department. The faculty of this department has a huge impact throughout the country.
